South Africa
des couleurs inoubliables

Africa’s Largest Contemporary Art Gallery

The much anticipated Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa opened its doors to the public on 26 September 2017. This cutting-edge, cultural institution is being considered in the same league as world famous art galleries such as the Louvre in Paris or the Metropolitan in New York.

The Museums first and most obvious attraction is the building itself. Thomas Heatherwick, lead architect on the project, together with local partners Van Der Merwe Miszewski Architects, Rick Brown & Associates and Jacobs Parker, took on the daunting task of transforming the V & A Waterfronts’ historic Grain Silo into this inspiring, first of its’ kind exhibition – putting Cape Town on the global art map!

The Museum is perfectly positioned at Cape Town’s most visited tourist attraction, spanning over 9500 sqm, across nine floors, with 6000 sqm dedicated to over 100 galleries dedicated to exhibiting works by leading artists such as Kudzanai Chiurai, Isaac Julien, Hasan & Husain Essop and Nandipha Mntambo. A special feature hanging over the full five floors of the atrium is South African sculpture wunderkind Nicholas Hlobo’s, Iimpundulu Zonke Ziyandilandela. South Africans have not seen this exquisite giant rubber dragon since it was commissioned in 2011 for the 35th Venice Biennale!

The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa is a public, not-for-profit contemporary art museum which not only brings the wonder of art to all, but also develops supporting educational and enrichment programmes, encourages intercultural understanding and guarantees access to art for all!
