The Lydenburg Waterfalls are situated just outside Lydenburg in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Most visitors to the Panorama Route visit the towns of Sabie and Graskop to see the most well-known waterfalls in the area, but what they often don’t know is that these are just 10 km from the town.

The waterfalls are located on the Dorps River and consist of three individual waterfalls cascading into one another. Two waterfalls drop next to each other into a basin with adjacent pools and the third then drops from there. The total drop height is 244 meters.

Not only are these waterfalls beautiful to see, but useful as well as they are able to generate hydro- electric power. The power plant is no longer used, but is maintained and is close by.

The Falls are not often seen by the public due to poor promotion and poor road signs, so visitors wishing to view the Waterfalls should travel from Lydenburg along the R36 towards Ohrigstad for about 10 km and be on the lookout for a small inconspicuous signboard on the left that will point you to the waterfalls. More information can also be obtained from the Lydenburg Museum or Kudu Ranch.
