Hectorspruit is a small farming community situated between Komatipoort on the border between South Africa and Mozambique and Kaapmuiden on the N4 which runs between Botswana and Mozambique. The town was built on a southern tributary of the crocodile river in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa.
The farmers in the region produce sugar-cane, sub-tropical fruit and vegetables.
The town and stream was named after a Pointer hunting dog which died there from a tsetse-fly bite and which belonged to Servaas de Kock, the chief surveyor of the Pretoria to Delagoa Bay railway line.
