Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown, Johannesburg, Gauteng
A World of Maths, Science & Technology
The Sci-Bono Discovery Centre is testament to the remarkable reawakening of downtown Johannesburg. It is a well organised science museum located in the old Power Station building in the popular cultural precinct of Newtown.
Sci-Bono, Gauteng’s exciting new Science Centre, is the largest of its kind in Africa. Initiated by the Department of Education it aims to create awareness and to get kids, young and old, excited about all things scientific. The words “don’t touch” do not exist at this museum, visitors are encouraged to touch, feel, press and play to their hearts content! It is a uniquely crafted edutainment centre for learners, educators, families, companies and tourists to interactively participate in fun-filled activities in maths, science and technology.
The Sci-Bono Discovery Centre receives hundreds of thousands of visitors annually making it one of the most popular leisure and educational destinations in Gauteng. It offers almost 400 interactive science exhibits as well as regular temporary exhibitions including popular international exhibitions such as the Body Worlds exhibition.
Learning about the laws of physics, chemistry and the life sciences has never been this entertaining and due the Centre’s location a trip to Sci-Bona could easily be combined with other Museums such as the Workers Museum, Museum Africa or even SAB World of Beer.
