Kammabaai Beach in Voelklip, Hermanus, Wes-Kaap
Kammabaai Beach is a firm favourite with locals and tourists alike in the coastal town of Hermanus. In fact, it is so popular during the holiday season that it is best to arrive early, by 11am there may be no space for your umbrella!
Kammabaai Beach has two sections to it and is divided by a rocky outcrop which offers hours of fun in the rock pools filled with interesting marine life. The right side of the beach has shallow water where Moms and Dads can let their little one play safely in the water at low tide. It’s suggested that children not swim during high tide due to the currents. The left side has a lovely sized section of sand, the perfect space for beach games and even large enough for a game of touch rugby!
Kammabaai Beach is favoured by surfers and body boarders, but beginners should be careful of the rocks and strong rip tides. The beach is linked to the larger and also very popular Voelklip Beach, only a 2 minute walk along the cliff path, and in turn Voelklip Beach links to the blue flag Grotto Beach making this an ideal beach for a nice long and relaxing walk! Kammabaai Beach also offers ideal picnic and braai locations under shady Milkwood trees.
The beach has a set of bathrooms and a shower if you are looking to rinse off. Life guards on duty during the summer season and there are ice cream trucks, but no café nearby so remember to pack refreshments.
