Gateway to the Vaal Dam
Deneysville is situated on the Free State / Gauteng border of the Vaal Dam, only 30 km from the Vaal Triangle towns of Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark, and Sasolburg and a mere 100 km from Johannesburg. It is the perfect venue for a day out or weekend away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
It is no surprise this pretty little town is regarded as the gateway to the Vaal Dam, it literally lies on the banks of this large body of water and alongside the Dam Wall! Its prime position has also earned it the title, “Inland water mecca of South Africa” so bring out the water toys as this water sports centre accommodates yachting, boating catamaran cruising, swimming, jet skiing, wind surfing, skiing, kite boarding, snorkelling and fishing!
The town is host to the annual 'Round the Island' race which takes place on the first weekend of February every year and is the largest inland water race in the world.
Don’t despair if you were not born a water baby as the area also provides horse riding, hiking and mountain biking trails and rainy days offer arts & crafts shopping, coffee shops and waterside restaurants.
Deneysville accommodation includes a few comfortable Bed & Breakfasts and self-catering cottages.

History
The Greinamnn Brothers founded the township of Deneysville during 1936 on
the remaining portion of the farm Witpoort and Wilhelmena. Deneysville was named after Deneys Reitz, Minister of Water Affairs and son of a past president of the Free State.
After the founding of the town they operated as estate agents, but unfortunately did not plan their development properly. The problem was that they concentrated on the entire town instead of one section at a time and this resulted in inadequate development.
Deneysville came into being as a result of the construction of the Vaal Dam. The construction commenced during the depression of the early thirties (1930 - 1933) and was completed in December 1938.
The first flying boats which introduced intercontinental flights to Africa landed on the Vaal Dam from whence passengers were ferried to the Deneysville Hotel (since demolished) to overnight.
