The Mamelodi Campus was under the direction of Vista University but in 2004 it was taken over by the University of Pretoria by government decree.

The students at the time of the takeover were allowed to continue their academic programmes at UP with an endorsement on their UP degree certificates indicating that they had followed the curriculum of Vista University.

A major upgrade of the IT laboratories facilities was implemented by UP for students and staff. This involved new computers and other state of the art equipment.

Notable mention 

A highly successful addition to this campus was the implementation of an extra year on the BSc degree offered to students who did not quite have the points necessary to follow this course of study. Extra attention is given to these students and various strategies were employed such as smaller groups of students and close monitoring of their progress.

History

In 2004 the department of Education implemented a restructuring of the higher education families and from this mandate the assimilation of Mamelodi Campus of the then Vista University into the University of Pretoria.

Some programmes had to be discontinued namely the LLB programme offered by the faculty of Law and new programmes were set in place for this Campus.

In 2008 the university implemented an additional year to the BSc degree for students who did not have the required points to qualify for the degree.
