- Cato Ridge
Cato Ridge is a small village situated about 30 km south-east of Pietermaritzburg, along the Mariannhill Toll Road between Assagay and Camperdown. Cato Ridge has grown, due to the overflow from both Durban and Pietermaritzburg, into a fairly large residential area, but also a large industrial area, which does not make it an attractive holiday destination.
Despite this, Cato Ridge is surrounded by beautiful countryside and plenty of tourist type activities and attractions and its neighbours Inchanga, Hillcrest and Kloof, offer some fine accommodation for visitors wanting to explore the area. It serves as a doorway to both the Natal Midlands and the Valley of 1000 Hills which offers and abundance of outdoor experiences and there are also boat cruises on Shongweni, Nagle and Inanda Dams.
Many artists and crafters have been attracted to the beauty and tranquility of this area, which is dotted with friendly pubs and tea gardens with sweeping views over the hills and dams.
