Cape Town's Biggest Event
The beautiful and vibrant city of Cape Town invites everyone to come and share once again in its’ biggest event of the year, the Cape Town Carnival. The eighth annual Mother City sized, Mardi Gras type Fiesta Festival will be taking place on Saturday, 18 March and promises a celebration of colours to remember.
Cape Town has always been regarded as the party destination for locals and tourists and the Cape Town Carnival 2017 will see designers, inventors, artists and students, dancers and sponsors all working together to create the best street party procession with exquisite floats, costumes in all the colours of the rainbow and vibrant choreographed dance routines. The 2017 theme “AMAZA – Ocean Odyssey” will ensure spectacular floats and costumes celebrating the big blue sea and all the creatures that call it home so expect adorable penguins, stunning mermaids, creatures from the deep and plenty of sea excitement!
The extravaganza starts at the top of Somerset Road, where Riebeeck Street ends, and while the live music, dancing and general fun is taking place, food vendors and drink stalls will be placed all along the route to keep spectators hydrated and happy. Please note though that alcohol is only allowed to be consumed at the refreshment stalls and bars on the Fan Walk. The Fan Walk kicks off at the end of the procession route, from York Street, and usually starts around 7pm. Fans can dress come and join in, dress comfortably, the walk is 2 km, and bring your dancing shoes as participation is compulsory!
