Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) (Missionvale Campus) in Salt Pan, Bethelsdorp, Eastern Cape

Missionvale campus is situated between Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage and ideally positioned to service the Zwide and New Brighton areas.

It is currently used for the NMMU’s extended programmes and has 1300 students but was formally the PE campus of Vista University.

Notable Mention

Bird Street campus has the largest indoor centre in the province, in addition to the fully fledged 1.5 ha traditional medicine garden for research by the pharmacy and biochemistry students. The medicine garden allows the students to do traditional medicine research.

The campus library is the first in the country to have an environmentally friendly lighting system with carbon dioxide sensors that saves energy.
