Battle of Talana Hill in Anglo-Boer War, Battlefields Region, KwaZulu-Natal
The Battle of Talana Hil was also known as the Battle of Glencoe. It was the first major clash of the second Boer War.
A frontal attack by British infantry supported by artillery drove the Boers from a hilltop position, but the British suffered heavy casualties in the action, which included their commanding general Sir William Penn Symons.
On the battle site is the Talana Museum where you can take guided or self-guided tours of the battle field.
