The Big Pineapple

The Big Pineapple, is located in Bathurst not far from Port Alfred and very true to its name, is the biggest man-made pineapple in the world and a popular landmark attraction with travellers!

The fiberglass, steel and concrete structure stands 16.5m high and has 3 floors with a magnificent view from the top all the way to the coast. This gigantic structure is a tribute to the agricultural success of this prickly fruit, especially after farmers struggled to grow crops in the country before the first top was planted in 1865.

The structure has a curio and gift shop selling all kinds of pineapple related products such as jams and juices, t-shirts, curios, puzzles and gifts. Finding your way up the giant pineapple you will come to the second floor where a static display in the middle of the floor will give you great insight into the pineapple industry in Bathurst. It’s a fun place for the whole family to learn about pineapple farming!

Situated on a pineapple experimental farm there are lovely expanses of lawn for children to run around and to picnic. There is also a restaurant offering great food and drinks in a historical stone settler building.
