Fresh Air & Countryside
Tweeling is a tiny town just east of the Liebenbergsvlei River and approximately 22 km south of Frankfort in the Free State province. It lies on the banks of the Vaal River, just two hours from Johannesburg.
This region of the highveld is colloquially known as the Riemland, recalling a time when it was a favoured hunting ground of the early pioneers.
The tiny hamlet of Tweeling is a perfect weekend getaway for the Jo'burg city slickers – no traffic, no stress, just fresh air and countryside! The surrounding farms offer outdoor activities such as horse riding, birding, hiking and mountain biking. The main industry in Tweeling is goose farming, for the use of goose feathers in bedding, the most popular farm being the Welgemoed and the Lion Rest Game Farm provides game drives and close encounters with the lions that they breed.
The town itself is filled with a few quaint shops, art galleries and curios, pretty buildings and hospitality only found in small village like towns. Guests are invited to unwind, wander the streets or hiking trails and enjoy the sweet county summer, or crisp winter, air!
Tweeling has cosy accommodation, Bed & Breakfasts, Guest Houses and self-catering facilities.

History
Tweeling means “twin” in both Afrikaans and Dutch. The town was established in 1920 on the two farms Tweelingspruit and Tweelingkop, their names taken from two similar looking hills just outside the town.
This entire area was once the hunting spot of choice for the earliest settlers and, more recently, was laid out by Rapportryers, an Afrikaans organisation, and served as the official Great Trek festival site.
