Place of the Persecuted One

The site of the KwaBulawayo Cultural Centre, only twenty minutes from Empangeni, is recognised as being of prime importance in the Zulu culture and heritage. It was here at King Shaka’s KwaBulawayo Royal Town that the Zulu Nation was consolidated. KwaBulawayo was the engine for the Zulu nations growth.

The isiZulu name means “place of the persecuted one”.  King Shaka established his military headquarters at this site and it was here that Mzilikazi betrayed Shaka. King Shaka’s second capital was also known as “the place of killing”.

The KwaBulawayo Cultural Centre is ideally situated close to the N2 allowing the cultural centre to service the passing tour groups. It is also easily accessible from the other tourist attractions, such as Queen Nandi’s Grave and the Ongoye Forest, that are in close proximity to the tourist centre. It is fitting that this site has now been developed into a world class, community based tourism facility where visitors can come and enjoy a truly exceptional and authentic cultural experience. The intention of the Centre is for all guests to leave feeling like it was the most unique and fun thing they have ever done, so come see us and enjoy all the fun cultural activities that are on offer.
