A message in a bottle ...
A mere thirty minute drive east of Cape Town leads you to Stellenbosch and South Africa's premier wine region. The region consists of five different tourist routes; the Greater Simonsberg, Helderberg, Stellenbosch Hills, Stellenbosch Mountain and Bottelary Hills.
The vineyards benefit considerably from the maritime conditions and the proximity to the mountain range that forms the eastern boundary of the region with the rolling hills, mountains and sea creating the important combination of slope, altitude and aspect which is so critical to the huge success of these wines.
While the Stellenbosch region is best known for its full-bodied reds, there are pockets of vineyards that allow for top quality, full-flavoured white wines. These premium white wines are predominantly planted on the higher slopes where climatic influences are critical.
Oldest wine route ....
The Stellenbosch Wine Route offers a wonderful variety of scenery and wine styles. It is South Africa's oldest wine route, with the region producing 11% of the total wine production and 70% of the accolades.
