Reddersburg is a tiny town which came into being on a farm around the old Reformed Church. The town lies approximately 60 km south of Bloemfontein.
Reddersburg is one of those sleepy little backwater towns most people simply drive through, but it serves well as a sleep over spot when travelling on to the Eastern Cape. What is remarkable about the town is the warmth and hospitality it offers its visitors. Other reasons for spending the weekend is when hunting in the vicinity.
The town is full of historical sites revolving around the Anglo-Boer War - during the Second Boer War, Reddersburg was the site of one of the last victories for the Boer forces over the British. The Mostertshoek Battlefield is a definite must-see for historical enthusiasts as this is the exact spot where the white flag of the British forces was hoisted up. A few British graves can also be found in the Reddersburg Cemetery.
The Reformed Church is also a popular reason for a stop over in Reddersburg. The church was built in 1925/27, the architect Gerhard Mordyk, the same person who later built the Pretoria Voortrekker Monument.
Reddersburg has very limited accommodation, but the old Sarie Marie Hotel is ideal for overnight stays.
