The North West University Art Gallery is situated in Potchefstroom in the North West Province, South Africa.

The Art Gallery consists of more than a thousand artworks and is a public gallery run by the North West University. Its’ aim is to connect the cultural life of the University to that of the wider community through a lively program of exhibitions, publications and events.

The gallery consists of two separate functioning art galleries, namely the North West University Gallery (NWU Gallery) and the Botanical Garden Gallery. The main NWU Gallery has exhibited various South African and international artists such as Angus Taylor, Rosemary Marriot, Sam Nhlengethwa, Daniel Naude and Jacki McInnes.

The Botanical Garden Gallery offers a platform for up and coming and local artists to exhibit in a professional gallery environment. It also focuses more on sculpture exhibitions.

It is recommended that visitors contact the Gallery to confirm upcoming exhibitions, tours and talks when planning their trip to Potchefstroom.

Climate

Potchefstroom experiences its rainfall in the mid-summer months, with December and January seeing the highest levels.

Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 15˚C and 29˚C.

Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between 2˚C and 18˚C.

Transport

Road trips from Johannesburg to Potchefstroom will take approximately one and a half hours (123 km) via the N12.
