Illovo Beach lies tucked away on the south coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal, approximately 30 km from the provinces main city, Durban.
The small resort town is ideally situated to explore the many attractions that the south coast has to offer. The warm blue Indian Ocean laps at the white sandy shore where there is some excellent fishing to be had on the Illovo Beach front, which is also a very popular sun-bathing beach.
For visitors wanting to explore the natural beauty of the area, outdoor attractions such as the Ilanda Nature Reserves and the Amanzimtoti Bird Park are only minutes away and the Oribi Gorge nearby offers wonderful adventures for those looking for more adrenalin rush activities.
This seaside town is a peaceful retreat from the bustling city just half an hour away. Locals are friendly and amenities such as shopping centres, medical facilities and such can be located in nearby Kingsburgh and Amanzimtoti.

Climate
Illovo Beach receives approximately 774 mm of rain annually with the majority of its’ rainfall occurring during the summer months.
Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 18˚C and 28˚C.
Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between 10˚C and 22˚C.
Transport
There are daily flights into King Shaka International Airport. Amanzimtoti is approximately 69 km’s away travelling along the N2. Car hire facilities are available at the Airport.
History
Illovo Beach’s recorded history dates back to 1860 when MacDougal’s riverside store was a welcome watering hole for passing travellers. Then, with the increase of traffic, a Mr. Pearce opened an inn on the southern bank in 1862 and it was his son, William, who eventually started the Illovo Sugar Mill in the year 1890.
The town is named after the Lovu River, “elephant” in Zulu.
