The Coastline here is rocky and precipitous. Apartment buildings are clustered along steep roads on the slopes of Lions Head and overlook the often turbulent bay.
Bantry Bay was originally called Botany Bay after a botanical garden planted for the cultivation of medicinal herbs.
The name Bantry Bay came into use in the mid 19th Century when the botanical garden began to be over whelmed by buildings.
Traces of the original garden terraces are still to be seen between Kloof Road and Victoria Road.
