The tiny hamlet of Himeville lies nestled at the foot of the Southern Drakensberg, just outside Underberg and approximately 130 km from Pietermaritzburg.
Himeville is a beautiful weekend getaway spot and an outdoor enthusiasts dream destination. Not only does it offer incredibly beautiful scenery but with its abundance of water Himeville has a reputation as a fly-fishing mecca. Himeville also makes for a quieter getaway than other parts of the Drakensberg as well as one of the best spots for hiking.
One of the best indoor attractions in this quaint town is the Himeville Museum. The Museum has a collection of fascinating San artefacts and is housed in one of the towns original old stone buildings dating back to 1900.
Himeville is home to the annual Splashy Fen Festival which brings the little town to life thousands of music fans descend on the area to enjoy the combination of music, food and drink – a celebration not to be missed!
The town and surrounds offer every type of accommodation which includes Country Hotels, Guesthouses, B&B’s, self-catering cottages and camping!

Climate
Himeville receives approximately 980 mm of rain annually with the majority of its’ rainfall occurring during the mid-summer months.
Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 13˚C and 26˚C.
Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between -2˚C and 22˚C.
Transport
There are daily local flights into Pietermaritzburg Airport, approximately 146 km away via R617. Car hire facilities are available at the Airport.
History
The area was formerly the terrain of San hunter-gatherer who spent their summers in and around the mountains of Himeville. The small rural centre and magistrates seat of Himeville today, was founded in 1902 and named after Sir Albert Hime, the governor of Natal at that time.
