The Great Zululand Music Festival in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal
“Expect the Unexpected”
The peaceful and scenic Eshowe comes alive over the weekend of 21 April with the first Great Zululand Music Festival. Many successful music festivals have been held before in these parts of Zululand and Eshowe is renowned as the perfect place to stage such an event – a place where you can expect the unexpected!
This epic music event will be held over four days, at three different venues with 11 bands performing. Artists include storyteller’s, singers and songwriters who are all very talented in their field. The music event was the brainchild of a brew master, a musician, two artists and a guest house owner. Richard Chennells loves three things: people, music and beer which is the perfect combination for someone who owns a hotel. The George Hotel, one of the primary venues for the music festival, has since 2006 been a popular choice for visiting musicians in Eshowe. The Hotel is also home to the local pub and has its own brewery onsite, Zulu Blonde.
Thornleys Guest House, another venue chosen for the music festival, lies across town and often takes on the bigger performances such as visiting bands and tribute shows. His stage built under an enormous litchi tree has seen artists such as Albert Frost, The Black Lapels, Bacchus Nel and Robin Auld.
Opening the event will be the very talented Gerald Clarke at the House in Zululand. Friday and Saturday will see the likes of Rusty Red, Naming James, local Eshowe artist Clayton Human and many more take to the stage at The George Hotel and last, but not least, included in Sundays’ line up are David Stark and the Fishwives. So, if you are travelling down for the weekend be sure to contact the George Hotel early for all accommodation and camping enquiries!
