At the base of the Indumeni mountain, the highest peak in the Biggarsberg range of mountains, is Wasbank, a small town which time has appeared to pass by.
Indumeni means 'where the thunder rolls' and the area around this mountain is called Endumeni, from whence the name of the municipal authority of this area also came.
Wasbank lies on the banks of the Wasbank River, close to the spot where the Voortrekkers, en route to the Battle of Blood River, took a vow on 9 December 1838.
There is a plaque on the side of the as you leave the village and approach the river, which briefly tells the story.
