Find Your Inner Zen

Visit the Japanese Gardens in Durban for a little peace and quiet. Located in the suburb of Durban North, the city park officially opened its’ gates to the public on 27 June 1963.

The gardens are a relaxing retreat from the everyday distractions of city life. Visitors can take peaceful walks along cobbled pathways leading them past various water features, bridges and gazebos.  The water features were set up on sites of natural springs which flow throughout the year and the streams are decorated with playful stepping stones and beautiful Louisiana lilies which produce a variety of colours in the gardens during early Spring.

Water birds are regulars among the frog statues and the traditional ponds are home to Japanese Koi Carp who bring luck to the water features! Bamboo, reeds and Japanese blossoms provide tranquillity with an authentic Eastern feel.

The Japanese Garden is a popular place for families and friends to meet for a picnic and is an ideal setting for passive recreation. The children’s playpark is great for the little ones to work off some energy and he park has security guards to ensure safely for all who visit.
