Dappad se Gat Beach is a popular spot along the Whale Route between Gordon’s Bay and Hermanus, via the scenic Clarence Drive (R44). Heading out from Gordon’s Bay, Dappad se Gat lies about 10 minutes after passing the start of the Crystal Pools Hike path.

Dappad se Gat is a beautiful sandy beach, a scene you think you can only find on postcards. Parking can be found right along the roadside where a sign, Dappad se Gat, marks the spot of the path leading to this amazing beach.

It features rocky cliffs with small caves that protect you from wind and the water is warm. Dappad se Gat is a beach popular with surfers however it is not a recommended spot for swimmers due to the dangerous rip current. In fact, the NSRI have put out a special warning stating that this is a very dangerous beach and requested that visitors do not swim here! Its best to sit back, relax and enjoy the stunning views with the family and a picnic basket!

Dappad se Gat, also known as “Caves” (Gat meaning Cave), was named after Dappad, a livestock thief that used to lead the cattle to the large cave on the right side of the beach, and slaughter them, then load the meat onto a ship.
