Dordrecht is situated a short distance north west of Queenstown in the heart of the Stormberg Region. It lies at the foot of the Western Drakensberg, or Stormberg, Mountain range on the popular Route 56 between Durban and Middelburg.
Route 56 is a wonderful alternative to the busy N2, which makes Dordrecht a convenient and worthwhile stopover if you are interested in exploring the smaller towns of the Eastern Cape. The countryside is incredibly pretty, and it is not uncommon for snow to fall in the village during the coldest winter months, making the village quite beautiful when it does.
The town offers some historical buildings to admire which includes a unique 1873 colonial country bed and breakfast establishment and a High School which is over 100 years old. Dordrecht also has a small village museum.

Climate
Dordrecht receives approximately 596 mm of rain annually with most of its annual rainfall during summer.
Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 12˚C and 28˚C.
Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between -2˚C and 17˚C.
Transport
There are daily flights into the East London Airport, approximately 263 km’s away via the N6. Car hire facilities are available at the Airport.
History
The town was founded in 1856 by a minister of the Dutch Reformed Church who named it after a city in South West Netherlands. The Dutch community bought the farm Boschrand on which to build their first Church.
