Amashova Durban Classic in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal
Mass Participation Cycle Race
The Amashova Durban Classic Cycle Race has been around for 29 years and will once again see thousands of cyclists take to the roads between Pietermaritzburg and Durban on the 16th October.
Despite following a safe route the Amashova Classic is considered one of South Africa’s most gruelling cycle races. It is also the country’s oldest “classic” cycle race and one of the most popular events in KwaZulu Natal. The event has three races and children as young as 10 years old can participate in the 35 Km fun ride making this cycle race a real fun family outing which will keep everyone fit and healthy.
The main 106 Km race follows a similar route to that of the famous Comrades Marathon and will challenge even the strongest of cyclists however the very difficult ride does offer the exquisite surrounding beauty of the Valley of A Thousand Hills.
To ensure the safety of the cyclists the race enjoys full road closure and Amashova will assist cyclists to purchase the mandatory license required for races longer than 20 Km. Please note that cyclists without a race number will be taken off the road and charged by the Metro Police so be sure to contact the Amashova organisers to ensure a great day out in the Spring sunshine.
