The Brown Hooded Kingfisher Trail is situated in Wilderness in the Western Cape, South Africa.

This trail, like the Pied Kingfisher Trail is also popular with birdwatchers. It is a true fairy tale hike in the heart of nature. The trail is also one of the least demanding trails in the area and is only about 5 km long. Look out for the Cape Robin, Knysna Lourie, Cape Batises and many more birds along the path. Plants along the way include Num Num, Wild Grape and Sagewood. We suggest that hikers stop along the way and take note of some of the interesting names tagged to the trees.

Hikers walk alongside the Duiwe River with the path crossing over the stream in various places either via wooden bridges or stepping stones. Along the way there is an optional climb to a stunning viewpoint and the climb is well worth the effort. The trail branches off and follows the tree-lined Klein Keurbooms River, ending at the beautiful rock pool and waterfall, but watch out for slippery rocks! Bring along a picnic, the end of the trail is the perfect sport to relax and enjoy nature before heading back along the trail.

Don’t forget your hat, refreshments, sunscreen and of course your camera and binoculars.
