The West Coast National Park lies just a short distance inland from Saldanha Bay and about a 90 minute drive from Cape Town. It is situated around the Langebaan Lagoon which is the Parks main focal point.
The West Coast National Park was established in 1985 with the aim of conserving the Langebaan lagoon and surrounding landscapes. The 40 000 hectare land provides a safe haven for thousands of seabirds who roost on the sheltered islands and pristine beaches within the Park. If you are a birder, the West Coast National Park will soon become your favourite bird watching destination. Approximately 200 species can be seen just around the lagoon!
During Spring the land becomes a tapestry of multi-hued flowers, turning the fields orange, yellow, purple and pink as far as the eye can see. Photographers flock to the Park at this time as do those eager to enjoy game drives to see the many species of antelope, particularly in the Postberg section.
The West Coast National Park is much loved by all, from bikers and hikers to birdwatchers, photographers and those just wanting to laze on the beach. Come spend a few days and enjoy being the opposite of busy!
