Overlooking the Indian ocean near the T-section in Umlazi, is where the home of Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) can be found.

This is a tertiary education facility providing career orientated skills to mostly Zulu speaking students. The university has 143 academic and research staff of which 28 percent are women.

  • 1974: 5 million rand was made available by De Beers Groups after the suggestion by Chief Minister of KwaZulu. Other businesses followed with more contributions.
  • 1981: Mangasutho Technikon moved in to its facility.
  • 2006: The Technikon had 10 096 students.
  • 2007: The Technikon was renamed Magasuthu University of Technology.
