Umhlanga Main Beach

The Heart of Umhlanga

Umhlanga has become “the” popular holiday destination along the coast of KwaZulu-Natal and it’s no surprise once you see the beautiful beaches in the area. Umhlanga Main Beach is considered Umhlanga’s No 1 attraction!

Although relatively quiet out of season, the beach is full of tourists during holiday season as some of South Africa’s most famous hotels lie along this coastline – the Oyster Box, the Cabanas, Breakers and the legendary Beverley Hills, Sol Kerzner’s first hotel. The beach is known for its’ safe swimming waters making it ideal for families with small children and holiday makers that are not experienced ocean swimmers.

Umhlanga Beach currently has Blue Flag “pilot status” and its facilities are similar to what you may expect at other world famous beach destinations. Visitors will find crystal clear water, white sand that stretches forever, life guards on duty as well as police patrol on standby.

A beautiful paved walk meanders through a beach garden alongside the beach and if you stroll to the right it will bring you to the Whale Bone Pier and Umhlanga Beach's landmark, the Umhlanga Lighthouse. There are great restaurants along the beachfront, all offering beautiful views of the ocean.
