Umdloti Beach

Umdloti is a small coastal town nestled between Umhlanga and Ballito with its main attraction being its beach. The Umdloti Beach typifies the idyllic beach conditions of sunshine, sand, rock pools and warm water.

Umdloti Beach, also referred to as North Beach, is a 5 km stretch of beautiful golden sand surrounded by natural beauty. This beauty, the likely possibility of seeing dolphins playing in the waves and the natural tidal pool is what has made Umdloti Beach a great beach outing for young and old. Due to its popularity there are lifeguards on duty every day and the beach is shark netted ensuring it is safe for visitors to swim, do some snorkelling, surfing or diving.

The large and totally natural tidal pool is safe for younger children to swim in and at low tide a variety of little fish and ocean life can be seen in the rock pools. The inshore reefs provide surf, rock and ski boat angling and water sports include windsurfing, canoeing and jet skiing.

Anglers choose Umdloti Beach, as it is known to be the best North Coast fishing spot for snoek and shad, although fishing is limited in certain areas. However, please note that collecting mussels from the rocks and cray-fishing are restricted in Umdloti, and require a permit from KZN Nature Conservation Services.
