No permanent quarters were allowed to be built at the lighthouse, so a prefabricated building had to be erected to provide accommodation for visiting maintenance staff. This structure has since been replaced by a wooden cabin that is similar to the ones found at the popular resort found next to the lighthouse.
iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa’s first world heritage site is the home of this beautiful lighthouse and it lies adjacent to Africa’s Southern most coral reefs. The Maputuland and St Lucia Marine Reserve join together to form a continuous protected area stretching 150 km from the Mozambique border, southwards to Cape Vidal and then 3 nautical miles out to sea. This is truly a majestic area to visit.
