South Africa’s Pure Links

The Francis Links Golf Course is situated in St. Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

The course is an 18-hole, 71 par Links golf course with Bayview Fairways and Kikuyu Greens. Links land is described as “ the marginal land lying between the beaches and the arable fields, and only good for grazing sheep and rabbits. Open to the elements of wind and rain, the game is played on the links grasses between the dunes and the bush”. St Francis Links suits the description to a tee!

The course was designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, fondly referred to as the “Golden Bear” who made the statement when about to open his 252nd golf course, “ I think this may be the best golf course I have ever seen”.

Found on one of the most prestigious estates in the country, the course is strikingly beautiful and immaculate. The course is surrounded by indigenous shrub, outlying dunes and a host of wildlife. The greens have simply been placed on top of the sand and follow the natural flow of the landscape while the bunkers define the quality and character of this course, looking as though they have been ploughed out of the ground with rough edges and ever changing slopes. The course is known to present a mental and physical challenge from the first shot.

The course offers the finest in its facilities where everything on offer is first class. There are four tees to choose from catering for a range of golfing ability and it also boasts one of the largest practice ranges in the country, over 1 000 square meters of driving and putting pleasure.
