Kimberley Airport in the Northern Cape of South Africa is situated 7 km from all major locations in Kimberley, the capital city of the Province.

Kimberley Airport currently operates domestic only routes, Cape Town and Johannesburg, and handles approximately 132 000 passengers per annum of which about three quarters are business travelers.

The airport dispatches a wide range of cargo from trophies to industrial equipment.

Climate

Kimberley has rainfall in the summer months of which January and March will see the highest.

Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 15˚C and 33˚C.

Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between 1˚C and 20˚C.

Transport

Various forms of transportation to and from the airport would be hired cars or taxis.

The airport has specified drop-off and pick-up areas and for those traveling with their own vehicles, ample parking is provided, including long term parking facilities.

Travelers are advised to arrive one and a half hours before the departure of domestic flights.

History

Kimberley is considered the birthplace of South African Aviation and a replica of the Compton Paterson bi-plane is on display in the Pioneers of Aviation Museum situated near the airport. The first school of Aviation was established here in 1913.

In the 1930’s Kimberely had the best night landing facilities in Africa and during the war years the airport was run by the 21 Flying School for the training of fighter pilots for the Union Defence Force.
