Alkantstrand Beach

Alkandstrand Beach is the most northern Blue Flag beach in South Africa. It is an exposed beach break that has fairly reliable surf. The Durban surfers rarely venture that far north and the Richards Bay surfers very seldom head south for the ridiculous crowds of the Durban beaches so during the week there are still days when there are very few people out swimming or surfing. Weekends and public holidays however can get very crowded.

Both Alkantstrand and Newark Beaches are protected by lifeguards and shark nets.
