Delta Park

Loved By Residents & Their Dogs

Nestled in the northern Johannesburg, amongst the suburbs of Blairgowrie and Craighall Park, lies Delta Park, one of the largest Parks in the City of Gold.

Delta Park is a spacious park of 104 hectares of grassland, woodland and wetland. It offers walking trails and cycling trails that link three tree-lined dams. If you plan a walk around the perimeter of the Park, you can find yourself spending most of the morning studying plants and enjoying special features such as the Sensory Trail and WaterWise Garden. The Trail is designed to assist visitors to appreciate more than just the beauty of nature, but also the texture, temperature and aroma.

Within Delta Park is the oldest bird sanctuary in Johannesburg. Formed in the late 1960’s, the Florence Bloom Bird Sanctuary makes up 7.5 hectares of the Park and offers wheelchair friendly bird hides overlooking two dams and a minimum of 250 bird species to spot.

This magnificent Park has proved popular with the residents of Johannesburg and their dogs, dogs are welcome off leash, and walkers and joggers will no doubt meet with many friendly breeds along the way. There are a number of benches placed around under shady trees, a large and fantastic playground for kids as well as ideal picnic spots!

Delta Park is often used for events and it was here that the first South African Parkrun was held. The Delta Environmental Centre offers a series of courses, workshops and programs with the aim of helping people live greener lives!
