History
Muldersdrift was formed on a “drift”, a ford or safe and shallow place where people could cross the Crocodile River. The river crossing point was on an old wagon route stretching from Pretoria all the way to Potchefstroom.
The area was said to have been settled in from 1850 as farmland and was established in 1866 as a town. The town was named after the Mulder family who camped close to the river when they were unable to across the drift due to flooding.
