Africa’s Wildest Stadium

Mbombela Stadium is situated in Mbombela (Nelspruit) in the Mpumalanga Province, South Africa.

The Mbombela Stadium is truly an African Stadium. The architects succeeded in a unique facility that blended beautifully into the Lowveld landscape – home of the Big 5. The stadium constantly reminds visitors that they are in Africa. The seats are patterned with Zebra stripes and 18 Giraffe features that serve as roof supports. The Giraffe heads are 43 meters above the ground and are large enough for a person to stand in.

The stadium has a seating capacity of 43 500 and was one of the ten venues for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and hosted four first and second round matches during June 2010. In addition to being a sporting venue, Mbombela can also be used as a venue for events.

Admissions

The Stadium is open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for tours between 14h00 and 16h00. Please contact the Stadium directly for tours and pricing.

Climate

Nelspruit experiences its rainfall in the summer months, with December and January seeing the highest levels.

Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 17˚C and 29˚C.

Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between 7˚C and 23˚C.

Transport

There are Domestic flights into Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport on a daily basis. Car rental companies are available for easy access around the area and it will take approximately 27 minutes (27.5 km)from the Airport to Nespruit along the R40.

Road trips from Johannesburg to Nelspruit will take approximately three and a half hours (358 km) via the N12 and N4 Routes.
