First Beach, or One Mile Beach as it is also known, is the main beach in the small fishing village of Mazeppa Bay which lies nested along the Wild Coast of South Africa. The beach is secluded and peaceful and boasts some spectacular views and sunsets.

The beach and its’ village were both named after the Mazeppa ship that ran aground here in 1892, then, during the second World War, a patrol plane attempted an emergency landing onto the beach, but unfortunately failed and ended up crashing into what is now known as One Mile Rock and is an important tourist attraction.

Here you can walk over a high suspension bridge, the attraction to which Mazeppa Bay is characterised, which is a whopping 100 meters from the ocean below. This leads you to Mazeppa Bay’s famous island, where you will find the best views of the beach as well as one of the best deep-sea fishing spots in the area.

Mazeppa Bay Beach is popular for swimming and surfing and very well-known amongst fisherman. Other popular activities include beach walks, hiking, and visiting the Manubi Indigenous forest where the bird and plant life is outstanding.

This beach is a must for anyone traveling down the Wild Coast, it is both beautiful and quiet.
