The Tsitsikamma Mountain Trail is situated in the Tsitsikamma Region in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

The Tsitsikamma Trail was South Africa’s first officially accredited hiking trail and has also been awarded the green flag certificate for a trail under excellent management.

Hikers will journey through some of the most beautiful scenery along the Garden Route, lush forest, mountain fynbos, stream and gorges. The many rivers, streams and rock pools along the way provide plenty of swimming opportunities in the summer months.

The trail begins in Natures Valley, approximately 12 km east of the Bloukrans Bridge Bungy and ends at either the Storms River Bridge or Storms River Village. The full hiking trail is 60 km and will take 6 days to complete. There are shorter options made possible by unique access routes to each of the overnight huts along the trail.

Optional equipment porterage, referred to as “slackpacking”, providers hikers with a chance to have all their equipment transported between overnight huts so only day packs have to be carried along on each day’s journey. This also frees up some time so you can enjoy more of the birding, swimming or photography opportunities the trail has to offer.
