Surf Museum in Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape

The Surf Museum is situated in Jeffrey’s Bay in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Any surfer will tell you that Jeffrey’s Bay is known as one of the top surfing destinations in the world, so it only seems natural that the town would have a museum dedicated to the sport. The Surf Museum pays tribute to the legends and pioneers of the sport and displays the historical relationship between man and the wave magic. It tells the very informative story of how surfing started in Jeffrey’s Bay and how the town has developed over the last 50 years. The Museum shows the process of making surfboards and its progression from simple wood to fiberglass and the latest light foam boards used today.

Every year in July, surf history continues to be made as 44 of the world’s top ranked surfers compete at the World Contest Tour held in Jeffrey’s Bay.

Climate

Jeffrey’s Bay has a warm climate throughout the year with colder evenings in the winter months.

Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 14˚C and 25˚C with fair rainfall all year round, the driest months are December, January and February.

Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between 9˚C and 21˚C with August to October being its peak rainy season.

Transport

Commercial Airlines offer flights into Port Elizabeth International Airport. Car hire facilities are available and self-drive trips can be taken along the N2 highway or you can contact J-Bay Cabs who offer shuttle services from the airport and in and around the town.
