Klein Karoo Wine Route
The Klein Karoo Wine Route in the Southern Cape is the most diverse of South Africa's wine regions. It is the eastern-most wine producing region in the country, stretching along Cape Route 62 from Cogmanskloof outside Montagu in the west, to De Rust near Meiringspoort in the east. The Klein Karoo although large in area, is small in production.
Surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges most of its vines are grown in the fertile alluvial soil along the riverbanks. It is a place of extraordinary vistas, of austere ridges and peaks and lush valleys. The climate is generally drier than those of the other wine regions, resulting in healthy vineyards which are grown organically to a large extent.
A variety of micro-climates enable our winemakers to produce world class port, brandy, champion muscadel and outstanding red and white wines, which vary from full-bodied cabernets to lighter wines for easy drinking.
The Klein Karoo Wine family consist of seven co-operative and five private cellars, which offer a veritable feast of wines. The creativity of the vintner combines with the expertise of the grower to produce wine which will amaze the connoisseur and delight the lover of wine.
