In 1921 the worlds’ largest Gold Refinery was established, Rand Refinery in Germiston and today 70% of the worlds’ gold passes through this refinery.
Notable people who come from Germiston are Helen Suzeman, politician and anti-apartheid activist and world famous golfer, Ernie Els.
