La Lucia Beach in Glen Ashley, Durban North, KwaZulu-Natal

La Lucia and Umhlanga are the heart of Durban’s world class beaches. La Lucia Beach lies alongside Umhlanga Main Beach and close to the well-known Oyster Box Hotel.

The warm Indian Ocean waters, pristine white sandy beach and spectacular views makes La Lucia beach a popular choice for locals and holiday makers. You can soak up the sun on this tranquil beach which is a perfect spot for swimming and surfing. The coral reef with colourful fish make for excellent snorkelling and diving and you can watch Dolphins frolic inshore all year round.

La Lucia and Umhlanga Main Beach are popular fishing beaches where fishermen will find Shad, Kob, Blacktail, Strepie and Stumpnose. Some places can become extremely crowded and unless you are experienced at fishing on a crowded beach we would advise that you move further away.

Shops and restaurants are not far from the beach, but pack a picnic basket and relax on the white sand – save your energy for long walks or beach games with family and friends!
