Douglas is a very small town which lies near the confluence of the Orange River and its main tributary, the Vaal River, in the Northern Cape.
This is a thriving, fast growing town however right now, it is so small nobody seems to have heard of Douglas unless you happened upon it while venturing off the N8 en-route to Kimberley from Upington. The town has a few worthwhile attractions – the Douglas Wine Cellar offers wine tasting in a beautiful environment so bring along your own picnic too!
Douglas is known for great fishing on the Vaal River, and birdwatching because it is so green. There is a beautiful spot called Die Neus (The Nose) which marks where the rivers meet, just outside of town.
It’s close proximity to Kimberley means Douglas is perfect for a day trip to see the town, maybe two days, and its’ attractions. Alternatively, a stay in Douglas means day tripping to Kimberley to see its’ many, many attractions from the Big Hole to countless historical buildings, monuments and buildings!
