- Commerces & Services (4)
The little village of Cedarville can be found on the southern edge of the Drakensberg Mountains, virtually on the border of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal. It lies within a rural region known as East Griqualand and is sited on a floodplain of the Umzimvubu River. The river originates north of Cedarville in the Drakensberg Mountains and travels 300 km to the seaside town of Port St Johns.
Cedarville is not just south of the Drakensberg, but is also the gateway to three mountain passes which lead into Lesotho and it is this feature of the quiet village that makes it so beautiful – grasslands, hills and mountain backdrops. For obvious reasons, the area offers visitors plenty of outdoor fun from hiking and rock climbing to birdwatching and fishing!
The country town itself is more of a stopover town with not too much on offer other than a quaint countryside church, the beautiful outdoors and peace and quiet. However, Lesotho is only an hour away and the surrounds include nature reserves, dams and waterfalls, a Mission Station and the small historic village of Matatiele.
Accommodation in the area is mainly on farms but does also include small Guest Houses and B&B’s.
