Bloemfontein Orchid House in Arboretum, Bloemfontein, Free State

The circular glass designed Orchid House in Hamilton Park, Union Avenue at the foot of Naval Hill, is reputed to have the largest collection of dazzling orchids in South Africa. It is managed by the Parks & Gardens Department of the Mangaung Council.

A boardwalk runs around its circular design allowing a close-up view of these exotic and ancient plants. In this tropical nursery of lush greenery and other exotic plants you can view the Vanilla Orchid, where all our vanilla essence comes from.

Hamilton Park, on the surrounds, is the ideal place to make a day of it picnicking with the kids.

The best time to visit is between May through to September when you will catch the most blooms.
