Grootdrink, !Kheis Rural, Northern Cape
Grootdrink, the name meaning “Big drink” in English, is a small town in the Northern Cape Province, roughly seventy kilometres east of Upington along the Orange River and in the centre of the wine industry along the Orange River Wine Route.
Using the Orange River as irrigation Grootdink has 4500 hectares of vineyards, for both wine and grape juice production.
There are more than 700 contributors along the Orange River’s banks producing cultivars such as cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, chenin blanc, Colombar, merlot, petit verdot, pinotage, red and white muscadel, ruby cabernet and shiraz
