Celebrating the San Culture – Past, Present & Future

The !Khw ttu San Cultural and Education Centre can be found along the Cape West Coast between Cape Town and Yzerfontein on the R27. The Centre offers visitors a unique experience and opportunity of being introduced to the world of the San people.

The San are the earliest group of hunter-gatherers to have lived in South Africa and the !Khwa ttu San Cultural and Education Centre aims to preserve their culture and heritage, to teach people more of the San peoples history and to empower the San to reclaim and share their heritage with us in their own way. All this is achieved here at !Khwa ttu through adventure and education, with a little relaxation on the side!

At !Khwa ttu we share with our visitors authentic interactions in a beautiful environment, walking and biking trails, inspiring San nature and culture tours, good food, compelling art and heritage exhibitions, professional, friendly hospitality and stylish special event venues and corporate functions.

Spend the day or stay the night, return enriched

This nature reserve contains many species of large animals including Zebra, Eland and the energetic Springbok and it also has an abundance of smaller mammals and stunning birdlife. The highlight however, of your visit to the cultural village is the one to two hour guided San tour. The tour includes a nature walk to learn about tracking skills, demonstrations in a replica traditional village and much more, all with an experienced San guide.

A unique experience

The centre has an excellent restaurant, exhibition gallery and arts and crafts shop where many of the items are made by the San communities and the profits thereof are returned back into the same communities. A visit here is truly and uplifting and inspirational experience.
