Little Karoo's best kept secret

Uniondale on the R62 is considered to be The Little Karoo’s best kept secret and its beautiful historical buildings include seven national monuments.

The town lies in a lovely green valley, surrounded by the Kamanassie and Kouga mountains with the mighty Swartberg in the distance.

There is plenty to see and do. You can play golf, go walking, cycling, or hiking. Pay the restaurants, coffee shops, antique shop or art gallery a visit.

Nearby, there are San rock paintings dating back 3,000 years, birding, trout fishing, mountain biking, scenic gravel roads and botanic routes, game drives, hunting, and horse riding.

The Uniondale Ghost

Uniondale is internationally well known for its ghost. Although visitors usually refer to the Uniondale Ghost in jest, the local people speak of the tragic incident with great empathy.

History

This farming town had its beginning in 1865 when two townships, Lyon and Hopedale, were amalgamated and given the name of Uniondale.

It was formerly a major ostrich-farming and wagon-building centre.
